Part 1. Back to Basics: Caring for 100% Linen & All-Natural Blends

For pieces that give you the pure, untainted feel of natural linen, the secret to maintaining their original beauty is sticking to cold water washing basics.

◆ Pure Natural Fibers (100% Linen, Ramie, Hemp)

We generally recommend washing these items alone in cold water (below 30°C) with a gentle, neutral detergent. Avoid high heat washing, aggressive rubbing, and machine drying, as these actions can lead to shrinkage and fiber damage. Instead of the dryer, hang your linen in a well-ventilated, shaded area to dry. This simple method helps maintain the fabric’s elasticity and natural gloss.

◆ Linen & Cotton

The added flexibility of cotton makes these blends easier to care for. While many labels allow washing up to 30°C to 40°C, we always recommend cold water to minimize potential shrinkage and twisting. When ironing, a steam iron on a low-to-medium setting is the safest bet and will help bring out that sleek linen finish.

 

Part 2. Function & Durability: Care for Synthetic and Man-Made Fiber Blends

When blended with synthetic and man-made fibers (Polyester, Nylon, Spandex, Viscose), delicate care is necessary because each fiber reacts differently to heat and moisture.

◆ Linen & Viscose

Viscose significantly loses strength when wet, making it highly susceptible to deformation. Therefore, dry cleaning is principally recommended, especially for finely woven fabrics with high fluidity or premium dresses. If you need to care for it at home, gently hand-wash the piece with a wool-safe neutral detergent, keep the wash time short, and reshape it before laying it flat to dry. Light ironing at a medium-to-low temperature is advised.

◆ Linen & Polyester, Nylon, Spandex

While synthetic fiber blends generally offer superior durability, exposure to high temperatures can cause the fabric to become glossy or permanently deform. To best preserve the linen's texture and color, cold water washing and low-temperature or natural air drying are recommended. Avoid using fiber-damaging bleaches, such as those containing chlorine. Light ironing at a medium-to-low temperature is recommended, with particular caution necessary as Polyester and Nylon are susceptible to deformation under high heat.

 

Part 3. The Luxe Touch: Professional Care for Wool, Silk, & Lurex

For items blended with high-value or special-effect materials, we advise near-professional care to preserve the distinctive texture and silhouette that are unique to The Linen Lab.

◆ Linen & Wool 

Wool blends face a high risk of shrinkage and felting. For structured garments like tailored pants, coats, or jackets, dry cleaning is the essential care method. If you must wash at home, use a dedicated neutral wool detergent, wash gently and briefly, then reshape the garment and lay it flat to dry.

◆ Linen & Silk, Lurex 

Silk’s delicate structure and Lurex’s metallic threads are extremely sensitive to friction, harsh chemicals, and heat. Dry cleaning is generally the main recommendation for these combinations. A very gentle, quick hand wash followed by line drying can also be a safe option.

To restore the natural elasticity and softness of your Linen Lab fabric, a light touch of steam ironing is often sufficient. Alternatively, lightly misting the fabric and utilizing a dryer for a short period is also an effective way to smooth the hand feel. For the most consistent results, we recommend testing first on a small fabric swatch.
